"On My Land"  June 20th, 2003

This is in my field, our house in the background and that's Ginger, our Aussie.

Today was a great day to be outside, it's rained as much as it could and now the sun has finally come out.  My son Paul Stephen, accompanied me and took these photos.

I do not stick to a certain color pallet yet, as you can see I'm setting out several of each color group so I can experiment to find what I like.

Simple wood palette I cut myself from 1/4" wood panel from Home Depot.

I worked for about two hours and did the 8x10 oil painting, "Green Fields".  The colors came out a little bright in the photo but there certainly was that much green!

I'm experimenting to see what I want to carry with me and what I don't need.  Every little bit counts when your walking to your site and carrying everything.

Since I did this, I designed a palette that will be cantilevered in front of my easel, so I don't have to hold it. I'll try it out and put up pictures when I can.

I carry my wet board or canvas back in a flat box, like a chocolate box.  (This is a nice thing to go out and buy yourself all in the name of art, chocolate is always a good idea!) I put the box(es) flat in a beach bag and carry other things I might need with it, jacket or shirt, bug spray, lunch.  Painting supplies I keep together in a backpack.
